Shop small, make a big difference on Small Business Saturday

The U.S. Small Business Administration reports that, now more than ever, small businesses need our support.

Now more than ever, small businesses need our support. Please join SBA and organizations across the country as they celebrate small business contributions to their communities by shopping at a small business on Nov. 30, Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011. It is an important part of small businesses’ busiest shopping season.

•In 2023, the reported projected spending in the U.S. from those who shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday was around $17 billion.

•Since 2010, the total reported U.S. spending at small businesses during the annual Small Business Saturday is an estimated $201 billion.

Join the highly successful team of SBA, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), and American Express in kicking off the 2024 holiday season. Support our nation’s more than 34 million independent businesses this Small Business Saturday – the 15th anniversary – and all holiday season long.

“Small Business Saturday has become America’s call to action to support the backbone of our economy and heart of our communities – our small businesses,” U.S. SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman said. “America’s incredible entrepreneurs create jobs, drive innovation, and strengthen our communities, shaping the unique character of neighborhoods across America. This year, as we continue to enjoy an unprecedented Small Business Boom, I encourage everyone to ‘Gift Big’ and ‘Shop Local’ by supporting local businesses and the millions of hardworking Americans behind them.”

SBA’s “Season of Small Business” will continue through December and encourages consumers to support small businesses throughout the holiday season.

So, #shopsmall this year.

Celebrate Small Business Saturday

The Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, encouraging shoppers to “Support Local Everything” in the communities they live in. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to shopping locally in your community and supporting the business owners and employees that drive positive economic change.

The Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce will give away 50 $15 gift certificates to the first 50 people at the Chamber office and Welcome Center at 895 Center St., Lewiston. Product will be available from 10 a.m. until gone.

The $15 gift certificates must be spent Nov. 30 at participating member businesses.

Participants must be at least 18 years old and complete paperwork to receive a gift certificate. One per person.

“Support Local Everything” reusable bags will be available at participating retail businesses with purchases over $25 (first-come, first-served), sponsored by the Upward Niagara Chamber and William Mayne Community Enhancement grant.

“Small Business Saturday is one of our favorite events throughout the year,” Upward Niagara Chamber President Jennifer Pauly said. “The focus is truly on our small businesses. The Chamber has supported small business day for 13 years, and every year we enjoy seeing the interaction between customers and business owners. Businesses offer promotions to encourage shoppers to visit, and many of them provide an open house-type of atmosphere.

“Please stop by your favorite local shop and let them know you appreciate them!”
