Counties ready to help deploy COVID-19 vaccine

County local health departments said they are prepared to help state and federal partners distribute the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is ready to deploy. That pledge came out of webinar hosted by the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) and included federal, state and local public health experts who discussed how the vaccine will be distributed across the state. The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance to help New Yorkers avoid food insecurity during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. About 700,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive additional food benefits this month to bring them up to the maximum allowable amount for November.

The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations will provide 1,000 Thanksgiving meals for families throughout Western New York with a total donation of more than $50,000 this holiday season. The donation is a part of the direct community aid initiative Terry and Kim Pegula launched in March that has committed $1.2 million to help members of the community who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

No. Add some Zoom classes and hybrid classes to the mix, the inability to see friends and go out to let loose on the weekends after a tough week full of assignments, papers and exams, not being able to play sports with teammates, not being able to meet new people as a freshman because they are couped up in their dorms - that makes college even harder.
North Tonawanda adopts 2021 budget

On Nov. 10, the North Tonawanda Common Council voted 3-2 to adopt its revised 2021 budget, which includes a 3.75% property tax increase (equating to roughly $50 per $100,000 assessment). The figure is lower than the 6.52% increase called for in Mayor Arthur G. Pappas' initially proposed budget, which was heavily criticized by residents and some council members alike.

New York Farm Bureau's 2020 market basket survey shows the price of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner saw a modest uptick from last year's meal.
