The Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce and Christina Mackenzie celebrated a ribbon-cutting for Satori Permanent Makeup Studio, located at 761 Cayuga St., in the Village of Lewiston. Mackenzie was formerly operating out of her husband's business, Rock Solid Tattoos, but grew to the point of needing a larger space to work with clients.

"Fright Fest" is back for its spookiest season yet. Opening Saturday, Sept. 23, and running select dates through Oct. 21, this year's event boasts BOO by day, including a trick-or-treat trail, "The Hunt for BOO," a costume parade, a new web maze, and family activities in "Boo Bother's Bay." Fright by night starts at 6 p.m. with haunts and a new, reimagined, 6,000-square-foot haunted house, "Escape from Bloodstone Hollow," plus terrifying scare zones, spooky merchandise, and ghoulish food for everyone.

Earlier this month, the New York state-commissioned Tourism Economics research study for 2022 was released, detailing the economic impact of tourism across the state. The study revealed that the total traveler spend in Niagara County in 2022 reached $969 million, which is an increase of 16.5% relative to 2021.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 25-year-old Abdi Kadir of Buffalo pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes to nine counts of robbery in the first degree and one count of burglary in the first degree (class "B" violent felonies). The defendant pleaded guilty, as charged, to all counts in the indictment against him.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction on Mt. Olive Senior Manor, which will create 65 affordable apartments for adults aged 55 and older, including 20 apartments with supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The $27 million development builds upon the state's $50 million investment in the east Buffalo community.
