Seneca Nation to host World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Charitable Golf Tournament

The Seneca Nation is hosting a two-day event of fun and camaraderie to support an important cause. Funds from the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Charitable Golf Tournament, on Aug. 7-8 at Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course in Lewiston and Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, will support the fourth World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference. The Seneca Nation will host the conference in July 2024, marking the first time it will be held in the U.S.

Lewiston GardenFest, presented by the Lewiston Garden Club, is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, along Center Street. The festival includes approximately 70 vendors selling flowers, plants and handcrafted garden art essentials, along with a garden walk, speakers, a container garden contest, and more throughout the weekend.

On Friday, Chief Frank Previte was patrolling in the area of Creek Road and Jeffersons Way when he observed a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle. First aid was immediately started with the help of a nearby resident. The driver of the motorcycle, a Ransomville resident, was treated by Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 and transported to ECMC.

Gov. Kathy Hochul updated New Yorkers on the ongoing statewide response to air quality issues caused by wildfires in eastern Canada. Forecasts show the New York City metropolitan area, Long Island and Western New York regions will be experiencing air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, while Central New York, the Lower Hudson Valley, Upper Hudson Valley and Eastern Lake Ontario regions are experiencing moderate air quality.
