Hefferon named deputy commander of Niagara Falls-based 107th Attack Wing

New York Air National Guard Col. Steven Hefferon, a Wilson resident, has been named deputy commander of the 107th Attack Wing, which is based at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

We at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are proposing to list the salamander mussel (Simpsonaias ambigua) as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and are seeking public comment. The salamander mussel is a species of freshwater mussel currently found in scattered populations across 14 states from New York southwest to Arkansas. We are also proposing to designate critical habitat for the salamander mussel.

Saturday morning shooting in Niagara Falls

On Saturday morning at approximately 4:20 a.m., Niagara Falls Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Fourth Street. Two adult males were transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in private vehicles suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim was stabilized and transported to ECMC where he is in critical condition.
