New York Power Authority names Jairo Florez regional manager for Western New York

The New York Power Authority has named Jairo Florez as regional manager for Western New York, effective Sept. 5. Florez will be the first Latino American to fill the top executive role overseeing all of the Power Authority's Western New York operations, including management of the Niagara Power Project, NYPA's flagship hydroelectric power project in Lewiston.
Hochul signs public health legislation to crack down on tobacco sales

Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed public health legislation (A1025/S50) to crack down on tobacco sales in New York. Her team said, "This legislation will make tobacco products less accessible by prohibiting the sale of these products at vending stands and in vending machines in New York state buildings."

Gov. Kathy Hochul updated New Yorkers on the CDC's approval last night of an updated COVID-19 vaccine, and urged New Yorkers to get the shot once it is available later this week. The 2023-24 vaccine, previously authorized by the federal Food and Drug Administration, is expected to be available at pharmacies and physicians' offices, as well as other health care providers, throughout New York in the coming days.
