Paper-shredding event this Saturday at Pendleton Town Hall

Niagara County Legislator Tony Nemi announced there will be a paper-shredding event from 9-11 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 26, at Pendleton Town Hall. The event is open to all Niagara County residents; no registration is required.

Yesterday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m., Niagara Falls Police responded to the rear of LaSalle Preparatory School for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male suffering from stab a wound to his back and arm. The victim was transported by ambulance to John R. Oishei Children's Hospital of Buffalo for treatment.

U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Ronald Morris, 48, of Buffalo, who was convicted of aggravated bank robbery; attempted bank robbery; and using, possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, was sentenced to serve 171 months in prison and pay restitution totaling $551,286 by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Frontier Airlines announces restart of nonstop service from Buffalo and Syracuse to Fort Myers

Frontier Airlines announced it will restart nonstop seasonal service to Fort Myers, Florida (RSW) from two upstate New York airports - Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) and Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) - in November. With the new service, Frontier serves a total of six destinations from BUF and four destinations from SYR. Currently, consumers can book travel at FlyFrontier.com through Feb. 13, 2024.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 45-year-old Bilal C. Wright of Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. The defendant pleaded guilty to all four counts in the three indictments against him.

Hochul: $20 million in water infrastructure upgrades for Erie County Water Authority

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $20 million in water infrastructure upgrades for communities in Erie County. Her team said, "With this funding, the Erie County Water Authority can complete a long-awaited, $80 million overhaul that includes upgrading water filters that treat 60 million gallons of water from Lake Erie each day, and haven't had substantial upgrades for 70 years."

We at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are proposing to list the salamander mussel (Simpsonaias ambigua) as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and are seeking public comment. The salamander mussel is a species of freshwater mussel currently found in scattered populations across 14 states from New York southwest to Arkansas. We are also proposing to designate critical habitat for the salamander mussel.
