Kathleen (Kate) Flannery of Syracuse has been named executive director for upstate New York chapters of the Alzheimer's Association and will lead the Western New York, Rochester Finger Lakes Region and Central New York chapters. In this role, she will be responsible for the overall strategic and operational functions for the three chapters, including program delivery, fundraising, community engagement, government and private grant funding, media relations, and growth and delivery of the association's mission.
Niagara County announces reopening of West Somerset Road

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the State University of New York, the City University of New York, and 40 private colleges and universities in New York state will have free application opportunities for high school seniors throughout the month of October. This is the first time that SUNY, CUNY and New York's private institutions will join together to waive application fees for students applying during New York State College Application Month.

Niagara University's Holzschuh College of Business Administration has been awarded a $500,000 Higher Education Capital Matching Grant for the construction of a facility to house the Centers for Food Industry Innovation and Supply Chain Excellence. Man found shot, dead in truck in Niagara Falls

At approximately 10:50 p.m. Monday, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Pine Avenue to check the welfare of a man sitting in a pickup truck. Upon arrival, officers located a 47-year-old male, sitting in the driver seat, unresponsive. Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR responded to render aid, at which time it was determined that the victim had been shot.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 47-year-old Felix Ramos of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Betty Calvo-Torres to one count of burglary in the third degree (class "D" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the only count in the indictment against him as his non-jury trial was scheduled to begin.
