Manslaughter conviction in Niagara County

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Chevelle Sherrill, age 44, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty this morning to manslaughter in the first degree in the killing of Calvin Wroten, age 48, also of Niagara Falls, on Jan. 5, 2022. Sherrill admitted to shooting Wroten, who was her boyfriend, with a shotgun inside the apartment they shared.

To ensure continuity of emergency care for the local community, Catholic Health will open a temporary emergency department at 5875 S. Transit Road, Lockport, on June 18 at 12:01 a.m., following the closure of Eastern Niagara Hospital on June 17. Mount St. Mary's Hospital will operate the 24/7 emergency department until the new Lockport Memorial Hospital opens in September.

New York state joins Operation Dry Water to stop boating under the influence

The New York State Parks Marine Services Bureau is proud to coordinate New York's annual participation in the national Operation Dry Water campaign. This campaign involves law enforcement agencies statewide to educate boaters about the dangers of boating while under the influence of alcohol, marijuana and other drugs, and removing impaired boaters from the waterways. This year, Operation Dry Water's national weekend of amplified outreach and coordinated enforcement is July 1-3.
