The Lewiston Art Festival is back! On Saturday, Aug. 12 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and Sunday, Aug. 13 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), our village will showcase the work of more than 200 artists, musicians and performers who come from near and far to be a part of Lewiston's annual celebration of creativity and skill.

People with chronic kidney disease, transplant recipients, living donors and other members of Western New York's kidney community will come together at the "Walk for Kidney Health" on Sunday, Aug. 20. This year's event will be held at the Lakeside Complex of the Buffalo Outer Harbor. The "Walk for Kidney Health" helps to raise awareness about kidney issues, support individuals with health challenges, and fund programs throughout the year.

On Aug. 4, 2023, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting two bodies were floating in the Niagara River in front of the New York Power Authority at 5777 Lewiston Road in the Town of Lewiston. The New York State Police assisted and were able to locate the bodies floating in the water by Stella Niagara.

The New York Power Authority and New York State Canal Corp. announced a strategic investment in the future of the New York State Canal system through the procurement of four new maintenance marine vessels. The new tugboats will be operated by Canal Corp. personnel and positioned along the 524-mile canal system to support the continued operation and maintenance of the statewide navigable waterway.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $108 million is available for school districts to support student well-being through expanding mental health supports. The new state matching fund, the $100 million Recover from COVID School Program, will provide funding to create or expand programs to help students address trauma caused by the pandemic, prioritizing school districts with the highest need.

As it readies for a Aug. 9 ribbon-cutting of a new exercise court at Porter on the Lake Park, the Town of Porter announced it received national recognition for ongoing environmental improvements completed at the lakeside park. Supervisor John "Duffy" Johnston said the town was recognized by the National Wildlife Federation for its efforts in creating a Certified Wildlife Habitat at POTL through NWF's Garden for Wildlife movement.
