The Historical Association of Lewiston welcomed the community to the Brickyard Brewing Company on Tuesday for a special treat: Emmy Award-winning photojournalist Isadore "Izzy" Bleckman and his wife, Mary Roseberry, screened the documentary "Risking Everything: A Story of Niagara's Freedom Seekers." The 33-minute film chronicles Lewiston's role in the Underground Railroad, juxtaposing stories with sculptor Susan Geissler's work in creating the Freedom Crossing Monument.
Village of Lewiston welcomes new Frontier House ownership team

Lewiston Town Board members and visitors to Monday's session at Town Hall had the opportunity to welcome the newest officers to the Lewiston Police Department. Chief Frank Previte officiated a swearing-in ceremony for new officers Mitchell Pegan, Adriano Medici and Lt. Michael Milbrand, who recently retired from the Tonawanda Police Department. All three joined the LPD on Feb. 18.

Last Friday, Feb. 15, multiple law enforcement and emergency services agencies conducted an active shooter exercise on the Lewiston-Porter campus. There has been a lot of press on the event in local media, for which we are thankful, as it is important for the public to both understand the amount of the preparation and to feel secure. Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick stopped by the Pfc. Charles N. DeGlopper Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9249 on Tuesday, Feb. 12, to present a check for $5,000 to the VFW, American Legion and the DeGlopper Memorial Park Expansion Committee. These funds are from the 2018 Erie County budget and will go towards the expansion expenses.

The 195-year-old Frontier House was sold to a group consisting of Ellicott Development CEO William Paladino and Lewiston developers Jeff and Jerry Williams. Their newly formed LLC purchased the building and almost one acre of land - including a parking lot - from Hastings Lewiston Inc. for the price of $800,000.
