After a two-year hiatus, the Niagara Power pulled off an 8-3 win against the Genesee Rapids at their home opener on Saturday, June 2. Starting pitcher Conrad Voss had seven strikeouts during the game, which remained tied 1-1 from the top of the third inning until the bottom of the sixth. That's when the Power scored five runs and finished off the victory.

As reported in last week's Sentinel, delays in construction of a new plaza on Center Street in Lewiston led the Zoning Board of Appeals to rule previously granted variances had expired. The ZBA's unanimous opinion is that construction should've begun on the project within one year of the granting of eight village code modifications - by late July 2017.

It took four years to review and then finally approve Ellicott Development's plan to build a plaza on 4.1 acres of land bordering Center, North Eighth and Onondaga streets. Trustees in the Village of Lewiston are hoping it won't take that long so see the development built and open to the public.

On a rainy Saturday morning, the Niagara Falls Air Base hosted a mass accident response exercise to prepare for any possible crash in the future. With the Thunder of Niagara Air Show set to take place on June 9 and 10, the setting of the simulation was for preparation in the event of an air show crash.

The Village of Lewiston Planning Commission on Monday voted unanimously to approve site plan changes at the Ellicott Development plaza site on Center, North Eighth and Onondaga streets. Specifically, members accepted a proposal to re-subdivide adjoining property located behind the building housing tenants including Vincenzo's Pizza House and Sue's Frame of Mind.

Such was heard by attending Lake Ontario waterfront property owners on Wednesday at a Ransomville session on updates to long delays in awaited state reimbursement funding to damage victims of last year's lakeshore flooding and erosion. The event took place at the Workers Memorial Monument in Reservoir Park, located just off Route 31 at the base of the New York Power Authority reservoir. A luncheon was held inside the Niagara Falls Conference Center on Old Falls Street.
