There's only a few days left in 2018, but looking back ... what a year it has been for Niagara-Wheatfield athletics. 2018 saw a majority of Falcons sports teams accomplish winning records, some of which included Niagara Frontier League and Section VI championships. Some teams and individuals were even fortunate enough to reach the state finals.

2018 was an interesting year. Residents in the Town of Wheatfield, Town of Niagara and City of North Tonawanda all saw their municipality change in some type of way, but now that 2018 is soon turning into 2019, it's time to start fresh.

The Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees endorsed a plan to build a "circle of honor" in Academy Park. Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 is raising funds to redo the monument area.

For months now, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board has discussed switching the town's light standards to LED.
The effort, which has been spearheaded by Wheatfield Supervisor Don MacSwan and Councilman Curt Doktor took a step in a positive direction Monday night.

Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, USA, and Mercado Development have announced plans to develop a "chef inspired" food hall at the Fashion Outlets. The food hall, named Mercado Place, is expected to open in the spring of 2019.

After successfully landing in Academy Park, Santa met with children and families before boarding his special Deal Realty Float. J&J Strassburg Trucking transported the holly-jolly one to the International Peace Garden, where he greeted even more youth.

Excitement is growing for an all-inclusive play area unlike anything else in Lewiston. Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. When completed - hopefully by next summer - the playground is expected to be almost 14,000 square feet.
