Thanks to NBC's hit summer series "Songland," the public has a newfound interest in what goes into making a hit song. Though the show's headliners - including John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini and will.i.am - are often thought of when hearing (or singing) a final product, many tunes take a team to be top of the pops. One of the music industry's more sought-after masterminds will perform at Artpark as part of "Tuesdays in the Park" on July 9. Kevin Griffin will showcase his own hit songs, including "Good," "King of New Orleans" and "Desperately Wanting," when Better Than Ezra takes the amphitheater stage.

It was a big night of music Tuesday at Artpark, as the Lewiston venue presented a bill with Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy, John Lodge of The Moody Blues with guest vocalist Arthur Brown, Asia and YES. The "Royal Affair Tour" offered fast-paced set changes, but laid-back rock music, which led to a larger audience pop than in past weeks.

Artpark & Company's first Strawberry Moon Festival served as a means to educate the community on the Tuscarora and Cayuga nations through Native American singing, dancing, crafts, fare and even a parade. Culture and customs were defined, explained and then presented to hundreds of onlookers - onlookers who were invited to become participants.

On Tuesday, the Niagara Greenway Commission determined the refurbishment of the U.S. Military Post Theater at Fort Niagara State Park was in keeping with the Greenway Plan's goals, principles and vision. Niagara Post Theater Inc. (NPT) is requesting $120,000 to repair the theater's ailing roof. The nonprofit group is slated to go before the Host Community Standing Committee in September for final approval.

Artpark & Company's annual "Fairy House Festival" offered a flurry of activities designed for all age groups. In fact, in each corner of the lower park area - where the event returned this year - one could find some new activity or sight. Throughout the afternoon, children and families dressed up, made fairy houses, concocted potions, visited the tea house, listened to music - made music in the interactive instrument garden - danced with costumed characters, picnicked and played games.

Norine Hibschweiler Eaton, who is being honored as a survivor in Grand Island's third annual Zumbathon, to be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the Radisson Niagara, has had a life full of love and loss, illness, and adventure. In 1979, Norine Hibschweiler went on a "date derby" with a bunch of single friends. The date derby involved visiting bars in Buffalo and collecting souvenirs, such as matches and napkins. For her efforts, Hibschweiler won the distinction of having "the most promising future."
