Trustees in the Village of Lewiston have met twice with Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker, and are finalizing a budget proposal for the 2017-18 fiscal year. As it stands now, the property tax rate is set to increase 8 cents, from $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $7.46.

Niagara County Community College will hold its fourth annual Relay For Life to benefit the American Caner Society from 6 p.m. Friday, April 7, to 6 a.m. Saturday, April 8. The event will be held in the main gym, on NCCC's Sanborn campus at 3111 Saunders Settlement Road.

A demolition crew is wasting no time tearing down the former Fairchild Manor Nursing Home site on Onondaga Street in Lewiston. An entire wing was removed on Monday, and enormous piles of metal, concrete, wood and brick were sorted and removed on Tuesday.

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency will hold a public hearing at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 30, on whether it should provide tax breaks to Summit Outlet LP for its proposed sports domes project at The Summit Mall property. At the end of the 2013-14 Niagara Falls High School basketball season, it was tough to judge in which direction the Wolverines were heading. The team had just finished 7-13, the program's worst record since the opening of the new high school in 2000. But the program had a storied past.
