This year, as of Monday, March 27, there have been 17 school shootings according to the Washington Post database. This has installed fear into students and their families in attendings school. That is just the small percentage of the more than 100 mas shootings that have happened so far this year. With these events happening more frequently it's hard for people to not worry and fear the worst.

There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but Relay For Life improved upon that by providing a free dinner. Relay For Life's "Crockpot Cookoff," held at Ellden's Grill & Banquet, 201 Whitehaven Road, featured a variety of tastings of both main course dishes and desserts.

The Rotary Club of Grand Island is extremely appreciative for everyone who has donated to its unique shoe drive fundraiser. Members spent hours last weekend in the Visitor Center filling bags of shoes that will raise much-needed funds for the club, while helping others by redistributing them throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise (small business) partners.

The Grand Island Board of Education's second budget input session, held Monday, focused on budget requests that involved such school district needs as mental health, cybersecurity, instruction for children who need to learn English as a new or second language, and proposed universal prekindergarten contracts with community providers.
