It was three summers ago that Hibbard's Original Frozen Custard announced a partnership with acclaimed Toronto band The Barenaked Ladies. The end result was "Big Barenaked Bang," an original recipe made with ground coffee, chocolate coffee beans and semisweet chocolate bits.

Lewiston's bicentennial weekend kicked into high gear Saturday night, as preeminent 1980s (and some '90s) cover band Nerds Gone Wild performed two sets from the Alphonso I. DiMino Memorial Band Shell at Academy Park.

In the afternoon, the Alphonso I. DiMino Memorial Band Shell was dedicated at Academy Park. Following some remarks from Tops owner Anthony DiMino and Mayor Anne Welch, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performed in front of a vast crowd.

Many residents are unaware Grand Island is the home to three state parks: Buckhorn Island State Park, Beaver Island State Park, and Big Six Marina State Park. According to Mark Mistretta, western district director of New York State Parks, he has heard on several occasions, "I didn't even know this (Big Six Marina State Park) was here. This is beautiful. This is wonderful."

Lewiston's bicentennial celebration kicked off Friday with the ringing of bells at the Red Brick Municipal Building and village churches. Community members joined local elected leaders and event organizers, clapping and cheering outside the former schoolhouse. Trustee Nick Conde tolled the bell for two minutes, signifying the municipality's first 200 years.

Millions of boaters are expected to head out on the water this Fourth of July weekend, including more than 830,000 first-time boat buyers who purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cancer changes a person forever, said Relay For Life Honorary Survivor Eric Fiebelkorn, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2012. He said the time that he spent fighting cancer gave him the opportunity to explore his faith and to reassess the direction of his life. He said this time of great pain and suffering also provided him with blessings.

On the day in 2012 when Eric Fiebelkorn, who was 38 years old at the time, went to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for his first treatment, he prayed with his wife, Alicia, and then told her, "You know, I feel great. It's crazy to me that I'm going in to start this treatment and surgeries. I feel like I could run a marathon."

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in June 2020, Bonnie Nevans and Crystal Still came up with an idea to help the community feel a sense of togetherness. That idea was a mural created by anyone interested in participating. Each volunteer was given a packet of materials, with directions on how to create a small portion of the mural. The individual pieces looked very abstract, and neither Nevans nor Still told any of the participants what the entire piece would look like.
