The New York State Department of Labor announced it has prevented more than $1 billion from falling into fraudsters' hands during the coronavirus pandemic, identifying and stopping more than 42,200 fraudulent unemployment benefit claims since mid-March. In the past five months, DOL has referred more unemployment fraud cases to federal prosecutors than the department did in the past 10 years combined.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced a new social media campaign to raise awareness of human trafficking and "help dispel common misconceptions about the crime and its victims." Programs will offer molecular (PCR) COVID-19 testing administered to students, faculty and school staff by WellNow professionals. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced more than $2.3 million has been awarded to support 61 businesses and residential landlords with COVID-19-related costs and expenses through the "New York Forward" loan fund. Of the 61 loans, 54 were provided to minority- and women-owned businesses; 10 loans were provided to residential landlords; two loans were awarded to veteran-owned businesses; and one loan supported a nonprofit organization.
