Higgins: $6.137 million in CARES Act funding to help small businesses in Erie & Niagara counties

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding over $6 million in funding to help small businesses in Erie and Niagara counties and a total of $19 million across Western New York. The funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act approved by the House of Representatives on March 27.

WNY 'SWAT' team results

On Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the results of the state's "SWAT" team's focused testing effort in Western New York over the past five days. A total of 6,385 tests were performed at eight sites with results delivered in 15 minutes. A total of 266 positive cases were identified, for a positivity rate of 4.1%. Contact tracing efforts in partnership with local health departments are ongoing.

UB reports 22 off-campus students have tested positive for COVID-19

The University at Buffalo learned Tuesday that 22 off-campus students tested positive for COVID-19 and are in isolation. This brings the total number of confirmed cases within the UB community to 27, including one employee, since Aug. 21 when the first cases were reported.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Saturday announced New York state's COVID-19 hospitalizations and intubations have dropped to new lows. Hospitalizations dropped to 458, the lowest number since March 16, and intubations dropped to 48, the lowest number since mid-March. New York state's infection rate has been less than 1% for 22 straight days - though it's been as high as 2% this week in Western New York.
