On Wednesday, New York State Supreme Court Justice the Hon. Henry J. Nowak, J.S.C., granted a preliminary injunction against a New York State Department of Health order placing portions of Erie County into a micro-cluster action initiative "orange zone." He allowed the almost 100 applicants permission to operate under "yellow zone" restrictions "pursuant to the DOH's Interim COVID-19 Guidance."

The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) on Wednesday called on the new Congress to pass a Coronavirus Stimulus Package that provides federal aid to state and local aid governments. NYSAC's call follows yesterday's announcement by incoming Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand supporting legislation that will assist New York and its local governments.
Memorial to hold offsite vaccination clinics as state expands eligible list

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will dispense COVID-19 vaccine to those who qualify at the Niagara Falls City School District Field House on the Niagara Falls High School campus. Although people must belong to an eligible priority group to be vaccinated, the state this week significantly expanded its list of those groups.
State vaccination sites now open; none in WNY yet

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the first three state-run vaccination sites are now open and vaccinating eligible New Yorkers against the COVID-19 virus. The sites - the Jacob K. Javits Center, Westchester County Center and New York State Fair Expo Center - all opened Wednesday morning.
1.1 million PPP loans forgiven so far, totaling over $100 billion

The U.S. Small Business Administration has already forgiven more than 1.1 million Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for more than $100 billion, providing what it called an "extraordinary amount of critical relief to America's small businesses just three months since the earliest PPP borrowers' covered periods ended."

The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the U.S. Treasury Department, reopened the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan portal Monday morning. SBA is continuing its "dedicated commitment to underserved small businesses" and to addressing potential access to capital barriers by initially granting PPP access exclusively to community financial institutions (CFIs) that typically serve these concerns.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday updated New Yorkers on the state's COVID-19 vaccine distribution efforts. By the end of this week, the state will have distributed approximately 911,000 first doses of the vaccine to providers for administration to eligible New Yorkers. Additionally, the governor announced that, to date, 3,762 providers have applied and been approved by the state to serve as vaccination sites. Currently, 636 locations are now activated and are able to begin vaccinating eligible New Yorkers.

The Erie County "Back to Business" grant program has issued its final report on the program's accomplishments, showing a total of 1,399 Erie County small businesses receiving approximately $19.2 million in direct financial assistance from the U.S. CARES Act through a partnership between Erie County and 43 North.
