Congressman Brian Higgins voted in favor of a coronavirus emergency package that provides relief to health care providers, expands the Paycheck Protection Program to keep small businesses afloat and employees working, and funds testing capacity toward the goal of restarting the economy. At the same time, Higgins expressed great frustration that the bill didn't include funding he supported for communities dealing with COVID-19 response.

WellNow Urgent Care now announces testing for COVID-19 in WNY; available in Niagara County

Beginning today, WellNow Urgent Care is offering two types of COVID-19 testing at its Western New York facilities: molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and blood antibody serology testing. Individuals who have or recently had COVID-19 symptoms are eligible to receive the tests. Tests are available seven days a week with no appointment needed.

Niagara University's Border Community SERVICE program is leading an effort distribute face masks to seniors in the Niagara Region. The organization is focused on enhancing regional emergency preparedness. It solicited the participation of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members, and partnered with the volunteer group Operation Sewing Squad - Flattening the WNY Curve to make the masks, which it has distributed to local organizations that help the senior and other vulnerable populations in the county.

A week ago, The Billoni family and Colvin Cleaners announced they were bringing back their tailors and seamstresses who were laid off due to COVID-19 to make reusable, washable face masks for their customers and local nonprofit agencies.
