DiNapoli: Statewide local sales tax collections decline 5.2% in October

Local government sales tax revenue declined by 5.2% in October compared to the same month last year, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. October's sales tax collections totaled $1.4 billion for counties and cities, or $74.4 million less than in October 2019.

Andrew Cuomo announced SUNY Upstate Medical's Dr. Stephen Thomas was appointed the lead principal investigator for the worldwide Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine trial, which is showing a more than 90% efficacy in preventing COVID-19. The SUNY medical school serves as one of the global phase three vaccine trial locations.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced California was added to New York state's COVID-19 travel advisory. No areas were removed. The advisory requires individuals who have traveled to New York from areas with significant community spread to quarantine for 14 days. The quarantine applies to any person arriving from an area with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average, or an area with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average.
