Fashion Outlets of Niagara USA, Town of Niagara donate on 'Giving Tuesday'

Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace and the Town Board, in conjunction with John Doran, senior manager of Fashion Outlets, split up and gave away $50,000 to various charitable groups, including the Town of Niagara Lions and Lioness clubs on Giving Tuesday.
Cold weather ushers in M&T Bank's 'Gift of Warmth'

M&T Bank recently announced the return of its "Gift of Warmth" campaign, the region's longest-running warm clothing collection program. At all of M&T's 65 local branches, Western New Yorkers can donate new gloves, mittens, scarves, hats and coats now through Jan. 3. All donations are given to local families served by The Salvation Army of Buffalo.

Deposits for Food begins its seventh year of collecting returnable beverage containers and scrap metal, with all proceeds going to three Niagara County food pantries. In slightly over six years, founder Angelo Sarkees of Lewiston, a SUNY at Buffalo graduate, has donated $72,000 to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul, both in Niagara Falls; and Care and Share Food Pantry in Ransomville.

Sarah McLachlan returned to Artpark to perform with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. The musical icon, Lilith Fair creator and Sarah McLachlan School of Music founder was, per usual, vocally dynamic, making for a memorable occasion. As she did in 2014, McLachlan shared stories, explained song origins and thanked fans for supporting her now 31-year career.

The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN), in collaboration with the Buffalo Bisons and Amherst Federal Credit Union, will present the third annual "Strike Out Breast Cancer" event on Saturday, Aug. 3. This family-friendly event includes a two-hour pre-game party downtown at Cathedral Park, a short breast cancer awareness walk to Sahlen Field, and admission to that evening's Buffalo Bisons baseball game.

The Discover Niagara Shuttle kicked off its fourth season last month, connecting riders to 17 destination sites along a 14-mile route from Niagara Falls to Fort Niagara. Overseen by the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area (NFNHA), the free hop-on, hop-off service has serviced over 105,000 riders from across the globe since its inception in 2016.

ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro shared the news with Mendez on this video. The award is given to a deserving member of the sporting world who has overcome great obstacles through perseverance and determination. Mendez was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder that caused him to be born without arms or legs.
