The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced work will begin today to reconstruct the Prospect Street frontage of Niagara Falls State Park. This project will complete the work that began in 2011 to revitalize the nation's oldest state park.

The much-anticipated Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center celebrated its grand opening on Friday. The Heritage Center is an experiential museum that reveals authentic stories of Underground Railroad freedom seekers and abolitionists in Niagara Falls. It was designed to inspire visitors to recognize modern injustices that stem from slavery and to take action toward an equitable society.

Iconic rock band Fleetwood Mac is returning to the road. The Grammy-winning band will embark upon a North American tour this fall. The trek will take Fleetwood Mac to Buffalo for an 8 p.m. show Tuesday, March 26, 2019. The newly announced lineup of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie with newcomers Mike Campbell and Neil Finn will take the stage at KeyBank Center.

This season, the much-requested service will be available at Gantry Plaza in Queens, Roberto Clemente in the Bronx, Bear Mountain State Park in the Hudson Valley, and additional locations at Niagara Falls State Park in Western New York this season.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday announced cashless tolling will go live at the Grand Island toll barriers on Thursday, March 29 (weather-dependent). As of the morning commute on Friday, March 30, the toll plazas at the north and south Grand Island bridges will no longer accept cash payment.

The Aquarium of Niagara officially opened its new, $3.5 million exhibit, Penguin Coast, on Wednesday. The new space is five times larger than the previous habitat and enables the venue to apply for Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation.

The 12th annual Art of Beer, a culinary fundraiser for the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, took place Friday at 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Local business owners and chefs donated 100 percent of their products and services to support the NACC.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue, a local rescue that has been saving the lives of unwanted, abandoned and homeless animals since 2012, will team up with local community groups for its annual fundraiser. The sixth annual "Heart to Heart: A Taste of the Niagara Region" will take place April 21, at the Cambria Wilson Volunteer Firehall in Lockport.
