Peach Queen program seeks applicants

Niagara County Peach Queen applications for the 2018 program are now available online at www.LewistonPeachFestival.org. The annual program for young women (ages 17-21) who reside in Niagara County will start in July. It is centered on community service.
New York state: $4 million in grants to expand food waste recycling

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced $4 million in grant funding for generators of excess wholesome food and food scraps to expand their capacity to donate wholesome food or divert it to organics recycling facilities. An estimated 40 percent of the food produced in the U.S. goes uneaten while about 2.5 million New Yorkers are food insecure.
WNY Power Proceeds Allocation Board recommends funding to Historic Palace Theatre in Lockport

The Western New York Power Proceeds Allocation Board (WNYPPAB) on Tuesday voted to recommend $142,000 in funding to the Historic Palace Inc., a theater based in Lockport. The funding would pay for a portion of the costs associated with upgrading the theater, including new and expanded audience seating, a new stage rigging system and an expansion of the orchestra pit.
Niagara Falls classmates donate to Community Missions

WNY school districts awarded hundreds of Connect Kids to Parks grants

In advance of Kids to Parks Day, celebrated nationwide on May 19, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced more than 500 Connect Kids to Parks Field Trip Grants have been awarded to schools from Western New York, sending 32,000 school students on visits to public lands throughout the western regions of New York state, including Niagara, Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua counties since September 2017.

Cashless tolls to Grand Island begin March 29

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday announced cashless tolling will go live at the Grand Island toll barriers on Thursday, March 29 (weather-dependent). As of the morning commute on Friday, March 30, the toll plazas at the north and south Grand Island bridges will no longer accept cash payment.
