The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports announced the award of nearly $800,000 to expand the "Triple P" Positive Parenting Program, an evidence-based prevention practice that has been shown to reduce risky behaviors among youth. Nine OASAS prevention providers were awarded funding under this initiative, which was provided through the federal State Opioid Response Grant and administered by OASAS.

On New York State Organ Donor Enrollment Day, Gov. Andrew Cuomo urged residents to register as organ donors through the New York State Donate Life Registry. His office said the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all areas of the health care system, including organ donation. The registry is "a safe and easy way to register to become an organ donor and give someone a second chance at life."

Independence Express, the transportation branch of Western New York Independent Living Inc. will provide free van rides to people with disabilities living in Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties who need a ride to vote on Election Day (Tuesday, Nov. 3). Or, if one would prefer to cast a vote prior to Election Day, one can get a ride to a designated early voting site in their county during its limited hours of operation between Oct. 24 and Nov. 1.

Community Services for Every1 received a federal grant from the Department of Justice through the Office of Violence against Women in the amount of $325,000 to fund its new domestic violence program to aid victims with a disability, and partner with the Family Justice Center and Niagara University to continue an ongoing collaborative designed to benefit people diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities who have experienced domestic violence in Western New York.
