Civic leaders and resident stakeholders gathered Thursday at the future home of the African Heritage Food Co-op to introduce the Niagara Falls Local Food Action Plan. With 400-plus resident voices contributing to the proposed actions, the Niagara Falls Local Food Action Plan is designed to be a roadmap to improving the overall food environment in the city.

Community Missions will hold its 22nd annual Sweetheart Dinner, presented by KeyBank, on Friday, Feb. 8, at the Sheraton Niagara Falls. The annual event benefits the agency's crisis services, including the community soup kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet and emergency housing shelter, and will feature more than 100 baskets, gift cards, lottery tickets, silent auction items and numerous raffles.

In basketball terms, when Niagara-Wheatfield and Grand Island stepped onto the hardwood inside N-WHS Tuesday night, the teams were battling to improve their record in the Niagara Frontier League and gain points for the sectional playoffs. As important as a win was, though, Tuesday night was a lot more than basketball. The Falcons and Vikings joined in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game, which was played in honor of a friend close to each school's heart - Julie Neville.

For Brigette Callahan and Kristin Warham, their dream of creating a book about their love of Buffalo came true. The book, "Buffalo From A to Z, Come Take a Tour With Me," is a bright, colorful, 54-page guide around the City of Buffalo.

Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. The New York State Department of Transportation and the New York Power Authority on Friday announced a major milestone in the project to remove an underutilized two-mile stretch of the former Robert Moses Parkway (now called the Niagara Scenic Parkway) along the Niagara Gorge in Niagara Falls, to create a park-like setting that will give residents and visitors alike unimpeded access to the gorge and provide added recreational opportunities.

DEC: $300,000 for municipalities for zero-emission vehicles purchase or lease

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced $300,000 is available from the state's Environmental Protection Fund in the form of rebates to municipalities for the purchase or lease of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).
