The Niagara Wine & Food Festival returns to Academy Park in Lewiston on July 27-28. The 14th annual event is sponsored by the Niagara Wine Trail and will include two days of wine tasting: noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops Friendly Markets returns to downtown Buffalo for its 41st event on Saturday, July 13 (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.), and Sunday, July 14 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.). The nation's largest two-day food festival features culinary delights from 43 restaurants and food trucks, four New York state wineries, live local music and more along Delaware Avenue starting at Chippewa Street and continuing into Niagara Square.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced progress toward enhancing Buffalo Harbor State Park with work underway on $47.5 million in new upgrades to the park. The project includes a new spray ground, signature art sculpture and fountain, café/retail space, and park office, and will help provide Buffalo residents and Western New Yorkers with more options to safely cool off and escape the heat in a warming climate.

The Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival has announced the lineup of national and regional bands for its 23rd event, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15, at the Niagara County Fairgrounds in Lockport (at "halfway to St. Patrick's Day"). Join the thousands of people who attend each year, where everyone is "Celtic" for the weekend. Coincidently, the location is "halfway" between Buffalo and Rochester, just a one-hour drive from each.

The vivid bright greens inside The Plant Shack were accompanied by myriad colors Saturday afternoon, as the shop hosted the third annual "Paintings & Pottery" event. Art from 130 Niagara Wheatfield High School students filled the Lewiston store as the culmination of six studio in art and ceramics classes.

Outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum last Friday, we met a graceful Billye Aaron, the widow of Henry Lewis "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron to present a plaque, titled, "Henry Aaron's Connection with Buffalo, New York." It was one day after a bronze statue of her husband was unveiled, and moments before the ribbon would be cut on the museum's newest exhibit, "The Souls of the Game: The Voices of Black Baseball."

Gov. Kathy Hochul today celebrated the centennial of the State Council of Parks establishment on April 18, 1924. Landmarks across the state will be illuminated in "parks green" and "centennial gold," while a special centennial flag will be raised at parks and historic sites across the state to commemorate the day.

The Niagara County Youth Bureau will return as a sponsor for the 2024 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This program ensures that children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during summer vacation. Meals are comparable to the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs (NSBP and NSLP, respectively) throughout the school year.
