North Tonawanda to seek $4.2 million loan as holdover until tax dollars roll in

The City of North Tonawanda is looking to move forward with a tax anticipation note (TAN) - a short-term bond issued by a municipal government that will be repaid with future tax collections. The reason given is that the city is in the midst of a revenue shortfall and needs stop-gap funding until it begins to receive tax revenue in April.

Niagara County gives greenlight to moderate- and higher-risk sports

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton on Wednesday said moderate- and higher-risk sports in Niagara County may proceed in accordance with New York state guidelines. Last Friday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the decision on whether these sports could start back up would be made by each county's health director.
Council for Older Adults calls for heritage recipes

The Council for Older Adults in Niagara County launched a unique project to document the area's cultural history through food. The COA invited all Niagara County residents to submit traditional family recipes to preserve and commemorate their cultural history and honor their loved ones through the creation of a community cookbook. "A Taste of History: Heritage Recipes from Niagara County" will be available for sale later this year for a nominal fee.

NT Common Council: Davignon retires; Belmont Housing Resources For WNY to help with foreclosure prevention outreach

At Tuesday's North Tonawanda Common Council meeting, city officials bid a congratulatory farewell to Superintendent of Water, Wastewater & Water Distribution Bill Davignon, who is set to retire this week. Davignon had worked at the plant for over 30 years and was appointed the supervisor role in 2016 by the Mayor Arthur G. Pappas and the Common Council.
Wheatfield veteran's memorial, Aquarium of Niagara plaza projects approved for Greenway funds

On Tuesday, the Host Communities Standing Committee (HCSC), which administers and oversees projects financed by the Niagara River Greenway, voted to award funding for a veterans memorial in Wheatfield and a new plaza in front of the Aquarium of Niagara.
Higgins: $34,000-plus in federal funding to keep WNY firefighters & communities safe

NT: Snowflake Ball canceled

Due to the uncertainty of the restrictions going forward for COVID-19, unfortunately the Mayor's Charity Snowflake Ball will not be held in February. Since masks and social distancing are in effect, as well as groups no larger than 25 people gathering, the ball seems impossible to host this year.

NCCC to begin spring semester with safety measures in place

Niagara County approves funding for vaccination hires

The Niagara County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night to allocate $101,458 from its contingency fund to create and fill part-time positions that will help administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the public when the vaccine doses become available. The county intends to vaccinate the public through point-of-dispensing sites (PODS).
Niagara County: Driver's license expiration extended again

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday said Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued executive order 202.87, which extends the expiration dates on licenses and permits that expired after March 1, 2020, to Jan. 29, 2021. In addition, the executive order also continues to require all in-person transactions at DMVs be done by appointment only.

Brian D. Seaman, with wife Donna by his side, was sworn in as Niagara County district attorney on Wednesday, Dec. 30. The oath of office was conducted by Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III - who himself served as Niagara County DA for 16 years, and hired Seaman as an assistant DA in 2006.

Stavatti Niagara Ltd. President and CEO John R. Simon conducted a tour through the company's newly-acquired, 47,000-square-foot hangar where the company will be bringing aircraft manufacturing back to the Empire State. On tour was Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace, New York State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello, and Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino.
