Local law enforcement officers and first responders came together Friday to enact two full-scale first response exercises within the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District. The first exercise was held at Niagara-Wheatfield High School, which was followed by a second one at Edward Town Middle School.

Twenty-year-old Carly Marrs of North Tonawanda, whose vehicle struck and killed two teenagers last summer, was sentenced Feb. 8 to pay a $243 fine for imprudent speed. She was also convicted of unlawful possession of marijuana. However, she was found not guilty for reckless driving, a misdemeanor; and an unspecified violation.

More Town of Niagara seniors may soon be eligible for a tax exemption. Officials discussed a revision in the town code that determines a tax exemption for seniors based on income level at a work session on Dec. 7 at Town Hall. The plan is to make the Town of Niagara's tax exemption codes consistent with those of Niagara County.
