Wheatfield Lions host picnic for the blind

Recently, the Wheatfield Lions Club hosted a picnic for the blind at the Five Senses Park on Ward Road. The picnic brought visually impaired from across Niagara County for a day of fun. 
Wheatfield Family Dentistry makes donation to Make-A-Wish

Recently, Wheatfield Family Dentistry held an open house fundraiser for Make-A-Wish of Western New York. The firm offered free sandwiches and ice cream from an Anderson's food truck. Other events included free pony rides from Blaze's Pony Express and a jumbo inflatable slide donated by Entercom Communications from Pig Belly Entertainment. 
SRO returning to NT School District for 2019-20

It was a light and brief meeting for the North Tonawanda Common Council, but security in schools was an important item put forth to the agenda.  The council entered into an agreement Tuesday with the North Tonawanda City School District to assign a North Tonawanda police officer as school resource officer at the middle and high schools.

Calspan 5K Race returns to main runway at Niagara Falls International Airport

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority announced Tuesday that the Niagara Falls International Airport, 2035 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, will, once again, host a unique 5K race using its main runway at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. 
FASNY Scholarship awarded to Sanborn student and EMS volunteer

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York has awarded the 2019 FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship to Megan Amacher of Sanborn. Amacher received a certificate and scholarship of $1,500 for her volunteer service in the community from Andrew Pilecki, member of the FASNY board of directors.

Monday evening, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board held its regular meeting for July. The meeting began with a public hearing regarding terms of office. The board's goal is to extend the term limit for supervisor from two years to four. 
North Tonawanda man & former grand juror admits to leaking grand jury information

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. announced last Friday that Casey Lipps, 26, of North Tonawanda pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo to committing contempt of court by impermissibly leaking secret grand jury information. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Helwig seeking increased penalties for illegal dumping

Back on May 4, Cub Scout Packs 833 and 824 held its yearly cleanup on Liberty Drive, which Wheatfield Councilman Larry Helwig called a great success.  It seems the efforts went for not, though, as Helwig informed residents that more illegal dumping occurred just days later at the cleanup site.

Former Pekin Fire Co. President Lawrence Amacher Jr. was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly stealing $1,800 from the company's bell jar collection for his personal use, and falsifying records to hide his theft, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
