The Niagara County Department of Health is working closely with the three local hospitals, its mental health and substance abuse department, and community partners - forming the Niagara County Community Health Workgroup - to "identify priority areas to build a plan to improve the health of our communities." The workgroup is conducting a collaborative community health assessment to understand the health needs and concerns of the local communities.

Niagara County Community College and Niagara Falls City Schools were part of the statewide "Women's Empowerment Draft" throughout the month of March. The two schools joined 24 other colleges and 30 grade schools to collectively celebrate Women's History Month. The program, created by Alfred University's Art Force 5, uses a pro-sports theme to build enthusiasm for historic icons.

The Erie/Niagara Sunrise Exchange Club, in collaboration with Mayor Austin Tylec, are recognizing the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month with the lighting of City Hall in blue for the entire month. While discussing potential candidates, the committee said it was important to "find an individual who truly encapsulates the spirit of Dyngus Day. After a great deal of deliberation, there was really only one person who fit the bill, and his name is 'Bozo.' "

On March 22 at 2:52 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received notification of a fire alarm activation at the apartment building located at 6824 Plaza Drive in the Town of Wheatfield. A second call received a short time later reported smoke showing on the first floor of the three-floor structure.

The Niagara County Center for Economic Development announced the launch of the new Niagara County Façade Program (NCFP). The NCFP will provide matching grants up to $50,000 for eligible businesses in order to rejuvenate their properties to help bring vibrancy to the central business districts in communities across the county. The county has allocated $3 million for the program through the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is now offering in-house dialysis service to medical center patients. Inpatient dialysis treatment will now be administered by Memorial staff throughout the medical center's campus, eliminating the need for an outside renal contractor.

Effective Monday, Feb. 28, Niagara County Community College is removing the mandatory masking requirement on campus for those fully compliant with the coronavirus vaccine mandate as defined by the Centers for Disease Control, New York state, the State University of New York and the Niagara County Department of Health. While masks will no longer be required, it is encouraged that individuals wear them when in close proximity to others.

At 2:47 a.m. Monday morning, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center was notified of a vehicle pursuit entering Niagara County from the Town of Amherst. It was reported that a silver Cadillac sedan was fleeing Amherst PD after the occupants were found stealing from cars in a local neighborhood.
