Niagara Alliance Church Helps Wheatfield Lions Club serve

Their generosity was on display recently as the assisted the Town of Wheatfield Lions maintain their property by staining their front, Ward Road sign and landscaping bed.

Last week, the Niagara County Planning Board voted unanimously to reject a plan for an asphalt plant at 4660 Witmer Road in the Town of Niagara. It was the latest setback for AL Asphalt, the company behind the project.
Town of Niagara/Belden Center World War II service cloth to be unveiled in private ceremony

There will be a private unveiling of a World War II service cloth bearing the names of 148 men and women from the Belden Center area of the Town of Niagara who served in the military during World War II. The private ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 30, at the Community Center located in Veteran's Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road.

Niagara Wine Trail hosting wine & cheese event

The Niagara Wine Trail members announced the return of a wine and cheese event. Wineries will feature a different cheese paired with a special wine from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, June 5, and noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 6. Tickets are $30 per person per day and include the cheese sample and three tastes of wine at each participating winery.

On May 15, the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas, the Gateway Cities Promotions committee and city officials from both Tonawanda and North Tonawanda took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the new Visitors Center of the Tonawandas located in Gateway Harbor Park.
Wheatfield Town Board honors Niagara County legislators

On Monday, the Wheatfield Town Board honored members of the Niagara County Legislature for the services they have provided the county/town, particularly since the pandemic began. 2nd District Legislator Rebecca Wydysh, 10th District Legislator David Godfrey and 7th District Legislator Jesse Gooch were issued signed proclamations to commemorate their dedication to the area.

NYS Wegmans now offering COVID-19 vaccine for individuals age 12 and older

New York state Wegmans pharmacy locations are now offering COVID-19 vaccination appointments to individuals age 12 and older. Online appointment scheduling for minors is open now, with appointment availability starting Saturday, May 15. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

DEC to rescind negative declaration for asphalt plant

NTPD warns violators solid waste code will be enforced

The North Tonawanda Police Department issued a public information announcement via its Facebook page regarding recent amendments to the city's solid waste code. On April 20, the North Tonawanda City Council approved an amendment to Chapter 45 of the City Code regarding solid waste, which imposed stricter penalties for violating new bulk pickup rules.

Last Thursday, demolition crews began tearing down the vacated structures located at 7001 Packard Road in the Town of Niagara. The location was most recently the site of Clancy's Restaurant. However, for many locals, the location will forever be remembered as the home of Page's Whistle Pig.

NCCC ahead of the curve amidst budding cannabis industry

On March 31, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation legalizing adult use of cannabis throughout New York. During the announcement, Cuomo said the development of an adult-use cannabis industry in New York has, "The potential to create significant economic opportunities for New Yorkers and the state." Its estimated the industry could bring in $350 million in tax revenue each year and potentially create 30,000 to 60,000 jobs.

Sanborn Area Historical Society Farm Museum reopening

Niagara County Veterans Service Agency to resume appointments in Niagara Falls

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski announced the Veterans Service Agency would begin in-person office hours at the Trott Access Center in Niagara Falls beginning next week. The office has been closed during the pandemic and all appointments since then have been conducted in the Lockport office.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis Club will host its May Day basket raffle from 1-3 p.m. May 1. The event will be outside at the Lions 5 Senses Park located at 6535 Ward Road, in the Town of Wheatfield. Attendees can purchase a sheet of 25 tickets for $5. The winning names will begin to be drawn at 3 p.m. Winners need not be in attendance.
