On Monday, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board held its second regular session of January. Valuable information was announced from the recent formation of an emergency services department, an update from Councilman Larry Helwig and Tim Zuber of Wendel Engineers regarding the Niagara River Greenway trail, and a response from Supervisor Don MacSwan to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on the cuts in Aid and Incentives to Municipalities.
Cuomo earmarks $500,000 for Niagara County SPCA

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced nearly $4.5 million was awarded to 13 animal shelters and humane societies across the state through the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund. The funding will support construction, renovation and expansion projects that will enhance animal care and health, and help ensure adoptions for New York's dogs and cats.

Shrubsall taken into custody of NCSO

After receiving several media inquiries, Sheriff James R. Voutour announced Monday that William C. Shrubsall, also known as Ethan Macleod, 47, is in the custody of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office. Shrubsall was taken into custody Monday with assistance from Canadian Border Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the New York State Troopers.
'Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon' reunion set for return

Tuesday, the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas hosted its business connections meeting featuring Laura Bernsohn and Mike Zimmerman of Lumber City Development. The duo discussed the NT MomeNTum Project, which is a revitalization strategy for a 546-acre study area in North Tonawanda. It is focused on redevelopment projects that will provide new opportunities for the community to live, work and play.

Calling all stylists, paparazzi, and anyone who likes to volunteer; Lumber City Church, 383 Vandervoort St., North Tonawanda, is looking for volunteers to be a part of Night to Shine. The church is in need of dozens of volunteers and monetary donations to make this prom for people with special needs a reality. The North Tonawanda church is one of nearly 500 churches around the world to host Night to Shine Friday, Feb. 8.

NCSO K-9 Chief to get donation of body armor

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office K-9 Chief will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K-9 Chief's vest is sponsored by Pam, Corey and Todd Harmon of Lockport and will be embroidered with the sentiment "In memory of Chief Craig C. Harmon." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

On Saturday, the Town of Wheatfield held its annual Christmas tree lighting and kids party at the town's Community Center. The festivities helped bring in the 2018 version of the holiday season, as Santa Claus arrived via a St. Johnsburg Fire Co. truck and greeted children upon arrival.
