The Pine Avenue Redevelopment Project will host nine concerts at Castellani Columbus Square Park, 1425 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. The concert series kicks off with a Chiavetta's chicken dinner from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 11. The USA Band continues every Thursday to Sept. 5.

A new date has been chosen for "Pitch Hit & Run" at Cardinal O'Hara High School in the Town of Tonawanda. The event, now scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday July 27, is open to those ages 7 to 14. The June 29 event was postponed because of rain and thunderstorms.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 429 - also known as Ward Road - will be closed in the vicinity of Sawyer Creek, just north of the intersection at U.S. Route 62, in the Town of Wheatfield, beginning Monday, July 8, to facilitate a culvert replacement. The closure is expected to remain in place for one month.

At its May meeting, the SUNY Niagara board of trustees unanimously approved a $48 million operating budget proposal for the coming fiscal year. Under the spending plan, tuition would stay at the current cost of $2,568 per semester for New York state residents. The college's student fee schedule would also remain unchanged.

Niagara Charter School students took part in their annual field day on Tuesday, June 18, competing outside in many fun physical challenges and games to cap off an awesome school year. Throughout the day, 350 students practiced great teamwork and sportsmanship testing skills as they raced, jumped, and worked together through the field day stations.

The Council for Older Adults (COA) in Niagara County invites residents over age 55 to enter the COA amateur art exhibit. This event includes original artwork in oil, watercolor, sketches, needlework, photography, pottery, jewelry, sculpture and woodworking. Each artist must be at least 55 years old and may submit up to five pieces of art.

On Saturday, the Wheatfield Lions Club officially dedicated the new fishing deck and improvements to the pond at our Five Senses Park, and accessible trails made possible with the efforts of many people both within our organization - but also thanks to Niagara Greenway funds. Dedicated to past club President Lion Walter Garrow, this amazing project was created, promoted and chaired by Lion Walt with great care and attention.

Wegmans is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its employee scholarship program. Since it began in 1984, more than 46,500 Wegmans employees have been awarded scholarships totaling $145 million. This year, approximately 1,500 new recipients were awarded scholarships. The company expects to pay out more than $6.5 million in tuition assistance to both new and returning scholarship recipients during the 2024-25 school year.

SUNY Niagara is celebrating a historic achievement for its surgical technology program. The graduating Class of 2024 marks a first in the program's history, with all 15 students earning a passing grade on the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certified surgical technologist (CST) exam, giving the cohort a 100% pass rate.

The Health Association of Niagara County will host the annual "Niagara County Senior Walk in the Park, Celebrating Older Americans." There is no charge to attend for Niagara County residents. This event will include a health fair, refreshments, entertainment by Okie Rich, health screenings, warm-up activities, choice of three walks in the park, and raffles. The first 400 people will receive a free bag, T-shirt and lunch.
