In an effort to assist qualified families who are in need of services in Niagara County, the North Tonawanda HUB hosted a drive-thru event March 10 at the South Elementary School and High School in North Tonawanda. One hundred fifty families received a bag of resources available to them for utilization during this pandemic.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public comment period regarding an air quality permit filed on behalf of a proposed asphalt plant for 4660 Witmer Road in the Town of Niagara. Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski on Wednesday said Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued executive order 202.97, which extends the expiration dates on licenses and permits that expired after March 1, 2020, to April 16, 2021. At this time, all transactions must be done by appointment only, although Jastrzemski said his office is working to change that next month.

The Niagara County SPCA kicked off its fundraising season on Wednesday with its first "Bark Day Bash" event at the Sheraton Hotel in Niagara Falls. The event provided a lively, yet-COVID-19-friendly and well-organized affair for attendees to celebrate St. Patrick's Day whilst raising money for one of the area's foremost animal welfare organizations.

On Tuesday, the Host Community Standing Committee (HCSC), which administers and oversees projects financed by the Niagara River Greenway Recreation/Tourism Fund, awarded $3.36 million to Veterans Memorial Community Park in the Town of Niagara. The funds will be used to cover phases III and IV of the park's master plan. The project was deemed consistent with the principles of the Niagara Greenway by the Greenway Commission on March 3.

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton on Wednesday announced Niagara County is expecting to receive 6,500 first doses of COVID-19 vaccination next week - by far the most the county has ever received for a single week. The county is expecting 5,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines and 1,500 Moderna that must be dispensed in that week. These doses would nearly double the total amount of vaccine doses Niagara County has received to date.
