On Tuesday, Empire State Development announced NOVAIR USA, a leading manufacturer of on-site gas production systems, plans to add 12 jobs and invest more than $1 million in its North Tonawanda plant. The investment will be used to expand operations and develop new products.

The Niagara Wine Trail is celebrating the holiday season with a weekend "Holiday Happenings" event, Saturday, Dec. 3, and Sunday, Dec. 4. The annual holiday mixer of the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at Frankie Primos 39 North, located on Webster Street in North Tonawanda. This year's theme, "A Christmas Story," is special, as the original movie celebrates its 25th year anniversary with a sequel to air this month on HBO MAX. The event will host Ian Petrella (who played Randy in the original move) and feature the original fire truck from the movie.

The North Tonawanda Common Council voted at Tuesday's special session in favor of 13 amendments made to Mayor Austin Tylec's proposed 2023 general budget, cutting the proposed tax increase down to 5%. Among those amendments was the removal of the proposed $25,000 raise for the mayor and approximately $20,000 worth of raises for the council.

It's fall, and influenza (flu) season is here again. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. The virus spreads mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with flu virus on it and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Flu can cause severe illness, hospitalization and death. Anyone can get the flu, and serious problems can occur at any age.

Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, in partnership with the Town of Niagara, has completed a decade-long project to protect and restore a critical forested wetland site along Cayuga Creek in the Town of Niagara. The protection of an additional 12 acres in partnership with the Buffalo Niagara River Land Trust in September caps off restoration work on the creek and surrounding ecosystem.
