On Thursday afternoon, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a telephone call reporting a house fire at 6030 Hoover Road in the Town of Wheatfield. When responding patrol units arrived on scene, all occupants had been evacuated, and the Sanborn Fire Co. was in the process of extinguishing the fire.

The Niagara County Department of Emergency Services and the Niagara USA Chamber of Commerce are cohosting a free drive-thru mask giveaway for businesses on Thursday, Jan. 6, at the county's Public Safety Training Facility in Lockport. Masks and signage about state masking requirements are available for any Niagara County business, though supplies are limited.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and the City of North Tonawanda will receive $10 million each in funding as the Western New York region winners of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. As part of DRI round 5, each of the state's 10 regional economic development regions are being awarded $20 million, to make for a total state commitment of $200 million in funding and investments to help communities boost their post COVID-19 economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods.

Deposits for Food (D4F) recently made its annual holiday donations to four Niagara County food pantries - just in time for the holidays. Checks totaling $3,000 were presented to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara Falls on Wednesday by D4F founder Angelo Sarkees. Checks were previously given to Wilson Food Pantry and Care-N-Share Pantry of Ransomville.
