Pappas recently announced the Arbor Day Foundation has once again named the City of North Tonawanda "2018 Tree City USA" in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters.

Former Pekin Fire Co. President Lawrence Amacher Jr. was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly stealing $1,800 from the company's bell jar collection for his personal use, and falsifying records to hide his theft, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

On Sunday and parts of Monday, Western New York got hit with yet another storm this winter. No snow or ice to mention, but winds blew through the area at steady speeds in the 40 mile-per-hour range, with gusts up above 70 mph.
The Tribune's local municipalities - the Town of Wheatfield, Town of Niagara and City of North Tonawanda - all endured the wind's wrath and had to deal with some damage.

The board declared a negative declaration, which shows no harm to the environment, in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review on part of a site plan from Mercado Development in regard to outdoor seating at a new food hall at the Fashion Outlets Mall.
