On Wednesday, North Tonawanda School Superintendent Gregory J. Woytila provided an update on the district's reopening plans during a Q&A via Facebook Live. The update comes as school districts across the state are set to submit their reopening plans to New York state by the end of this week.

Per the Niagara County Sheriff's Office: On July 24 at 16:56 hours, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a possible boating accident. An occupant of a mid-size anchored vessel, just east of Gratwick Park, jumped off the vessel into the Niagara River for a swim. The male subject was quickly overtaken by the fast-moving current and went under the water for a short time.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Niagara County Community College has decided to postpone its 30th annual Foundation Scholarship Gala. The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, will now be held in spring 2021. No official date has been set at this time.

Although initially thought to be included in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's phase four reopening plans, this week malls across the state learned they would have to remain closed for now. During the governor's press briefing on Wednesday, Cuomo said state health officials would continue to "study malls, movie theaters and gyms," as concerns rise that air conditioning systems could propel a resurgence of the coronavirus.

Carrousel Museum to host Chiavetta's fundraiser

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is holding a curbside Chiavetta's chicken dinner pickup from 3-7 p.m. Friday, June 26. Dinners are $12 each in advance, and include the famous Chiavetta's chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and a roll. A portion of each dinner sold will help the museum to make up lost admissions income from the three months the museum was required to close due to COVID-19.
