They call it the "most entertaining two hours in Lewiston," and this year will feature the first time two former champion teams will face off in a battle of wits, skill and speed at "Lewiston Jeopardy." The event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Brickyard Brewing Company. Not to be underestimated, two other teams with vast knowledge of Lewiston's culture and history will be looking to steal the crown from the former champs.

On Labor Day weekend, "Old Fort Niagara presents 1812: The Forgotten War," a living history program about the fort's role in the War of 1812. Special programs include early 19th century soldier life, an 1812 field surgeon, military music, blacksmithing, laundry, dress-making and tailoring, silversmithing, cooking and foodways, children's games, musket and artillery firings and tactical demonstrations.

No decision was made Monday on a proposal from Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours President John Kinney to install a new docking system on the south waterfront seawall adjacent to his company's staging area. Upon hearing from residents and boaters - and deciding it's time to review WJBT's existing contract - the Village of Lewiston Board, instead, opted to table.

Catholic Health announced Mark Sullivan has decided to step down as president and CEO on Aug. 31 after a 30-year career with the health system. Monsignor Robert E. Zapfel, chair of Catholic Health's Corporate Members and Sponsors Council, also announced the appointment of Joyce Markiewicz, the system's executive vice president and chief business development officer, to succeed Sullivan as president and CEO.

Kinney looking for Village Board approval of new Lewiston waterfront docking system

Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours President John Kinney has proposed a docking system for the waterfront area parallel to his operation's staging area. He said the seawall there, as is, is not practically usable for transient boaters - or even for WJBT. Kinney would like to reconfigure the area to better accommodate his patrons. He has offered to donate his existing adjacent docking area to the municipality for the betterment of transient boaters.

NCSO investigating Niagara River death

On Aug. 4, 2023, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting two bodies were floating in the Niagara River in front of the New York Power Authority at 5777 Lewiston Road in the Town of Lewiston. The New York State Police assisted and were able to locate the bodies floating in the water by Stella Niagara.
NWF recognizes Porter for improvements at POTL town park

Supervisor John "Duffy" Johnston said the town was recognized by the National Wildlife Federation for its efforts in creating a Certified Wildlife Habitat at POTL through NWF's Garden for Wildlife movement.
