The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, USA Niagara Development Corp., The New York State Department of Transportation, the New York Power Authority and the City of Niagara Falls have announced a public information meeting will be held to present the proposed "build alternative" for the Robert Moses Parkway North Removal Project, which runs from Main Street in Niagara Falls.

The district judges of the Western District of New York have announced the appointment of Michael J. Roemer, Esq., of Youngstown as a magistrate judge. Roemer won unanimous selection to fill the seat vacated by the Hon. Hugh B. Scott, who will continue to serve as a recall magistrate judge for the district.

Niagara County Peach Festival Chairman Gerry Gismondi has announced there will be a cheerleading competition Friday, Sept. 11, at Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston. Competition will be held for high school varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads or youth football and all-star squads.

State Sen. Rob Ortt today delivered a check in the amount of $20,000 to help the Youngstown Police Department better protect residents and operate more effectively. Ortt secured the state funding to assist the department with the purchase of one new, state-of-the-art police cruiser.

The second annual Great Contraption Race, held last Saturday in the lower Niagara between Lewiston and Youngstown, may have been slow in its development over past months. But once under way, this unique race event held to benefit the educational and outreach programs of the It Happen to Alexa Foundation - much like the vessels mastering the river's waters - managed to overcome its growing pains quite well.

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon has gone global. Runners from countries around the world, including England, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Austria and Ethiopia, will soon travel to Western New York to "run with the river" in this one-of-a-kind race that has grown tremendously since its 2009 inception.

Friday marked a relatively quiet change at the top for the Lewiston Police Department. Chief Chris Salada finished his last day on the job and, at least for the time being, department operations will be maintained via seniority with LPD Sgt. Frank Previte expected to oversee day-to-day affairs until a replacement is officially named.
