New York Power Authority fishing piers to close for season

New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of NYPA's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season, at dusk, Tuesday, Nov. 30. The fishing pier near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.

New York Secretary of State Rossana Rosado on Tuesday announced her approval of the Town of Porter Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), which provides a step-by-step process to advance the town's waterfront planning from vision to implementation. Porter's LWRP was prepared in partnership with the Department of State and supported by $34,250 in grant funding from the Environmental Protection fund (EPF).

The Niagara County Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services announced the distribution of a community survey regarding suicide prevention in Niagara County. It said, "The survey will examine the community's awareness of resources, how to help yourself or someone you know who is experiencing thoughts of suicide, and what type of supports you would like to see available in our community."

The Wilson Lions Club held a "Spread the Warmth" coat drive during the months of September and October. A goal of 100 coats was set, but the drive collected more than 200 coats, in addition to women' professional outfits, scarves, hats, new underwear and socks.

An Advent silent guided weekend retreat will take place at Stella Niagara's Center of Renewal in Lewiston. The event will run from Friday evening dinner through Sunday lunch, Dec. 3-5, and will include Advent prayers, periods of silence with moments of reflective and contemplative time, along with scheduled conferences, group sharing and prayer chants, and personal reflective questions for use all throughout Advent leading up to Christmas.
