Moving along now that the dedication of the Presbyterian Church and Cemetery have taken place, I am starting a new project. Apart from regular cleaning, I'm hoping to move forward to placing a permanent granite monument in the Potter's Field behind the old stone church.

The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston will open its doors to the community on Christmas Eve. All are welcome to attend the candlelight service in the historic Old Stone Church at 505 Cayuga St. "This is Noel - a Christmas Eve Service of music and story," will begin at 6 p.m. Robert Hull, music director for the church and renowned Western New York organist, will direct the choir.
$45 million in funding to propel recovery of nonprofit arts & culture sector

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced $45 million in grant awards through the New York State Council on the Arts. Her team said, "Grants administered by NYSCA this year will provide critical aid to bolster nonprofit arts and culture organizations and artists as they embark on a dynamic multiyear recovery process."

Rotary raises funds for local food pantry

During the annual Lewiston Christmas Walk, the proudly Binational Rotary Club of Lewiston & Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, offered locally made holiday-scented candles for sale, with net proceeds to benefit Ransomville's Care-N-Share. The food pantry serves an average of 320 individuals every month, providing food for families to prepare at home.

New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation President and CEO Maureen A. Coleman announced EFC successfully closed its State Revolving Funds Revenue Bonds, Series 2021 B (2010 Master Financing Program) (Green Bonds) bond transaction that will help ratepayers in 54 communities save $19 million over the next 20 years.

Niagara University's Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement and its College of Education have teamed up with Old Falls Street USA to transform the three-block entertainment district into "Candy Cane Story Lane." For the month of December, children and their families can take a self-guided stroll along the path to read Gregg and Evan Spiridellis' charming story "Are You Grumpy Santa?" On Saturdays, those who answer questions about the story will receive a free treat courtesy of Bryce's Snack Trailer.

Christmas Walk weekend wrapped Sunday night with the inaugural Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade. Checks totaling $3,000 were presented to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara Falls on Wednesday by D4F founder Angelo Sarkees. Checks were previously given to Wilson Food Pantry and Care-N-Share Pantry of Ransomville.

New York Power Authority fishing piers to close for season

New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of NYPA's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season, at dusk, Tuesday, Nov. 30. The fishing pier near the Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.
