'Big R': Big Blocks & monster trucks coming to Ransomville Speedway

The Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds will make their 36th visit to the Ransomville Speedway Wednesday night for the 37th running of the Summer Nationals. The race will be 75-laps in distance and will pay $7,500 to win. The Investor's Service Sportsman will join the Big Blocks as they will be competing in the second annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Western and Central Region.
Fatal boating accident in Wilson

At 6:11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a boating accident in Lake Ontario at the rear of 4581 E. Lake Road in the Town of Wilson.

Recovered body in lower Niagara River

Just before noon on Friday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a call from a boater in the lower Niagara River stating there was a body floating in the river. U.S. Coast Guard retrieved the person from the water. The individual was then brought to the Coast Guard Station in Fort Niagara State Park.
Village of Lewiston to vote on reducing speed limit to 25 mph

Mayor Anne Welch said the Village of Lewiston intends to take advantage of a new state law and lower the municipal speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph.

These concerts, a collaboration between volunteers and the Village of Youngstown mayor and Board of Trustees, have been bringing music to the area on Friday nights for over 20 years. Niagara County Sheriff's Office K9 Reggie will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc. K9 Reggie's vest is sponsored by Christine Rath of Youngstown, and will be embroidered with the sentiment "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal on Tuesday announced a section of Porter Center Road in the Town of Lewiston will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Monday, Aug. 8. Electronic message boards are already in place warning motorists of the pending closure.

The New York Power Authority board of trustees on Tuesday approved the award of a competitively bid contract, valued up to $37,984,000, to REEL COH Inc. of Boisbriand, Canada, to fabricate, deliver and install a new gantry crane with a lifting capacity of 680 tons for the Power Authority's Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.
