On Feb. 11 at 3:18 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a male making suicidal statements, armed with a firearm, in the 3000 block of Ransomville Road in the Town of Porter.

Castellani Art Museum (CAM) of Niagara University celebrates two powerful exhibition launches. "Survive, Remember Thrive, Armenian Traditions" in Western New York is on view from Feb. 2 to May 7, and a closing reception will be held on its final day. "Imaginary Worlds: Behind the Scenes with Niagara University Theatre" is on view from Feb. 9 to Aug. 13, and a reception will be held on Feb. 23 from 4:30-7 p.m.

NYS announces $100 million to repave roads impacted by extreme weather

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced $100 million in state funding has been released to support the renewal of roadways impacted by extreme weather. The funding supports repaving projects at 64 locations, totaling almost 520 lane miles of pavement, and "complements the record level of investment in infrastructure across New York state."

Ransomville Speedway hosted a drivers registration meeting at the Ransomville Fire Co. on Sunday afternoon. Drivers had the opportunity to reserve pit pads, register their cars, purchase track memberships and DIRTcar licenses. Ransomville Speedway officials, including tech inspectors and the race director, were on hand to answer any questions.

Fatal fire in Youngstown

On Thursday, at 8:12 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting smoke in the apartment building located at 136 Jackson St., in the Village of Youngstown. NCSO deputies and officers from the Town of Lewiston Police Department responded and confirmed smoke coming from the second floor of the building.
Niagara University receives grants totaling $500,000 from Mother Cabrini Foundation

Niagara University has received a $300,000 grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to continue and enhance work done by its College of Nursing to foster nurse resilience, effectively bridge the transition from student to health care professional, address a critical shortage in the nursing workforce, increase awareness of health inequities, and develop effective approaches to care in complex environments across Western New York, with an emphasis on Niagara County.
