The Library of Congress recently published a collection of materials that highlight the rich stories, culture and traditions of the Ransomville Speedway, dating back to its inception in the mid-1950s as the Ransomville Slow Pokes club by Ed Ortiz, Rich Cantara and other racers, to keep local kids from racing on Ransomville streets.

Village of Lewiston Clerk Shannon Fundis and Treasurer Stephanie Longwell announced residents can now pay bills online via the municipal website, https://villageoflewiston.net. Items that can be viewed and paid include water and utilities, taxes, building permits, licenses, recreation department events and even parking tickets.

As the 2022 holiday season approaches, it appears the Town of Lewiston Family Ice Rink is being put on the shelf for this year. The Town Board announced last week that, due to a number of concerns - most notably the condition of the ice rink cooling systems and related equipment, plus uncertainties with the rink's Academy Park site - it has decided to suspend the annual holiday feature for this year.

After a two-year hiatus, "Rock'N with HART" is back. The event, featuring Western New York's renowned Summer of '69 All-Star Band, will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Lewiston Event Center. At 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, the Lewiston Council on the Arts will present the ninth annual "A Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald" fundraiser at the Brickyard Brewing Company, 436 Center St. This multisensory and multimedia tribute will be hosted by artist and Edmund Fitzgerald enthusiast Thomas Paul Asklar, who will commemorate the 47th anniversary of the disaster.

Porter Town Board members began discussions on the town's 2023 budget plans at its monthly meeting Tuesday at Town Hall. No actual numbers were released that evening, as financial discussions are said to be continuing between the town and its employees, namely the Highway Department, according to Supervisor John "Duffy" Johnston and bookkeeper Kim Boyer.

The Mason FOREVER Foundation awards scholarships honor of Mason Sawyer Monteleone. He was interdisciplinary health science major student at the University of Florida in Tallahassee when he tragically died in a car accident at the age of 21. Monteleone was interested in becoming a physician assistant or an orthopedic surgeon. He graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo and attended middle school at Lewiston-Porter.

On Sept. 28, the binational Lewiston/NOTL Rotary Club held its first event in Ontario since the pandemic began. At Whiskey Run Golf Course in Port Colborne, "Goofy Golf" was fun; it was silly; and it raised funds to help the most vulnerable in the community!
