Lewiston Democratic Committee to honor Congressman Brian Higgins

On Sunday, April 23, the Lewiston Democratic Committee will honor U.S. Congressman Brian Higgins as its Lewiston Democrat of the Year. The ceremony will take place at a brunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Niagara Falls Country Club, 505 Mountainview Drive, Lewiston.
ASI awards $44,500 in 'Give for Greatness' funding to 23 WNY arts & cultural groups

ASI distributed 23 "Give for Greatness" grants providing general operating support to arts and culture nonprofits based in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties. Out of 59 total applicants, 23 organizations were selected by a panel of local arts and culture leaders from across the region.

Bill Patti named executive director of Kenan Center

Bringing his knowledge and experience in the theater, along with strong leadership and management skills, Bill Patti was selected as the next executive director of the Kenan Center. Patti officially began his duties on March 13, taking the time to learn about the operations of the nonprofit, meeting with staff and transitioning with Susan Przybyl, the former executive director who retired on March 31 after almost 25 years.
Niagara County partners with NU, GreenSheen for paint recycling event

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh announced Niagara County is partnering with Niagara University and GreenSheen to host a paint recycling event on Saturday, April 15. Any latex or oil-based paint in its original container can be accepted at no cost. Residents and businesses are allowed to bring up to 50 gallons of paint to the event.

New York Power Authority fishing piers open for 2023 season

NYPA fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, are now open for the season. A little church trying to make a big difference

Recently, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilson presented local shut-ins, past church members who are no longer able to attend Mass, and low-income individuals, with a little good will and a sure sign of spring. Over 50 people were presented with hand-crocheted baskets, each containing blooming crocuses, along with chocolates donated by Park Side in Buffalo.

DEC announces New York's trout harvest opens April 1

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the April 1 start of the spring trout fishing season, which provides excellent angling opportunities thanks to DEC's extensive stocking program and wild trout fisheries. DEC stocks nearly 1.9 million trout in waters statewide, beginning in March and lasting until early June.

Construction of the new, 60,000-square-foot Lockport Memorial Hospital (LMH) is proceeding at a record pace as a result of Catholic Health's continued collaboration with the New York State Department of Health, local government officials, and its construction partners. Ground was broken in November 2021 for the $62 million facility - the largest investment in eastern Niagara County in recent years - which is expected to open in September 2023.
