Project Play WNY announces awardees for 'Summer Free Play Series' inaugural grant process

NFFP responds to fire

At 1:37 a.m. Wednesday, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to a fire at 7211 Stephenson Ave. Upon arrival, fire personnel found heavy fire coming out of the windows on the right side and in the rear of the building. Upon investigation, it was determined the cause of the fire was not accidental.
Buffalo man pleads guilty to attempted murder for injuring victim in shooting at dollar store

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 34-year-old Travis J. Green of Buffalo pleaded guilty Thursday morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to one count of attempted murder in the second degree (class "B" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in full satisfaction of the indictment against him.

Feroleto have announced the artists chosen to paint live mural art during the 2023 Hertel Alley Mural Fest, which will take place June 10-11. The festival is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, on Hertel Alley, which runs behind businesses from 1225 and 1301 Hertel Ave., in north Buffalo.

Stoute succeeds Dr. Katherine Conway-Turner, who served as co-chair since 2019 and will be retiring as president of SUNY Buffalo State University.

Sean Ryan, Assembly member Karen McMahon and Assembly member Monica Wallace visited the Asian American Heritage Festival in Amherst to announce $30 million of state funding in the fiscal year 2023-24 state budget to support Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in New York. It is the largest investment in the Asian American community in state history.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the opening of the 2023 navigation season for the 524-mile New York State Canal system, kicking off the 199th consecutive opening of the historic waterways. Locks and lift bridges on the Erie, Champlain, Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals will operate daily today through Oct. 11, providing opportunities for boating, fishing and sightseeing to tourists, canal enthusiasts and all New Yorkers.

"HOPE Day," the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving to benefit Appeal, brought in a record total of $507,456 toward this year's $9.5 million goal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith." 'Tops Totes for Change' continues to aid local charities by raising over $519,000

It's hard to believe that a little over three years ago Tops launched its highly successful "Tops Totes for Change." This program encourages shoppers to purchase a reusable bag with a special charity design for just $2.69, with $1 of the proceeds being donated back to five local community organization. Since its inception, Tops is proud to say that $519,846 has been raised for area charities and at a time that these organizations need it most.

Hochul announces essential upgrades to Buffalo's Apollo Media Center

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced a plan to upgrade the Apollo Media Center in east Buffalo to support job training, youth programming and media production.
