Bannon event planned for Roycroft called off

After what he called "unending attacks and threats of violence and property destruction," Assemblyman David DiPietro on Friday morning called off a planned event at the Roycroft Inn. He was to welcome former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Lois Gibbs returns to Niagara County for event focused on creating safer environment

The Niagara County Democratic Committee announced Lois Gibbs will return home to join a local discussion on environmental issues facing society today and her experiences during Love Canal. This event will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport. Doors open at 9 a.m. for a meet-and-greet. A short press conference will take place at 9:30 a.m., and discussion to follow at 10 a.m.
Catholic Health participates in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

As part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Catholic Health is hosting drive-up drop-off sites in Erie and Niagara counties to help get unused and unwanted medications out of people's homes. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.89, down 2 cents from last week. One year ago, the price was $2.47. The New York state average is $3 - down a penny from last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.67.

Memorial Medical Center schedules flu shot clinic

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will conduct a flu shot clinic for adults 18 and older from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. The clinic will be held on the first floor of the Golisano Center for Community Health, 533 10th St. Both quadrivalent and high dose influenza vaccines will be available along with two types of pneumonia vaccine.

The Buffalo Bills and Unyts have teamed up to host a One Buffalo community blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 2, inside the Dunn Tire Club at New Era Field. The event will give presenting donors an opportunity to spend part of their Tuesday in the stadium in the Dunn Tire Club. Niagara Falls welcome plaza project update: Additional slag discovered, contained onsite while cleanup advances

During the continued construction of the Niagara Falls State Park Prospect Point welcome plaza project, contractors for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation discovered a limited area of additional slag to be cleaned up on park property. State Parks said the materials have already been contained and pose no threat to public health and safety, as they are in the same fenced-off project area, inaccessible to the public, as last month's discovery.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. (ECHDC) has released the results of its Outer Harbor "Capital Planning Phase" public survey. The qualitative survey, which was conducted both online and in-person, was part of the agency's first community meeting to seek public input for three projects focusing on access and the activation of over 150 acres of Buffalo's Outer Harbor.

Earlier this week, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn said, "In light of the grand jury report released by the attorney general's office in Pennsylvania, the New York State Attorney General's Office contacted our office regarding a potential joint investigation into alleged sexual abuse by Catholic priests in New York state, specifically within the Diocese of Buffalo. The Erie County District Attorney's Office is in consultation with the attorney general's office to explore the logistics of a potential partnership."
