On Tuesday at the Larkin Commerce Center, 35 Buffalo Police Department recruits from the Buffalo Police Explorers (BPE) took their oath led by Buffalo Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood. Officers from the BPD and other dignitaries from the law enforcement community attended the ceremony.

NYS: Nearly $15 million to support water quality conservation projects

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced nearly $15 million has been awarded to support agricultural water quality conservation projects across the state, benefiting 147 farms. The funding is being provided through the Agricultural Nonpoint Source Abatement and Control program, which supports projects that address water quality challenges in priority watersheds and protect the environment.
Statewide crackdown on impaired driving this St. Patrick's Day

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced state and local law enforcement agencies across New York will be stepping up patrols to crack down on impaired driving for St. Patrick's Day. The enforcement campaign will run through Sunday, March 21. This special traffic enforcement detail is designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related traffic crashes. It is sponsored by STOP-DWI with funding from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.

Cuomo signs legislation granting employees time off to receive COVID-19 vaccination

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed legislation (S.2588-A/A.3354-B) granting public and private employees time off to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Under this new law, employees will be granted up to four hours of excused leave per injection that will not be charged against any other leave the employee has earned or accrued.

Man shot in leg on Pine Avenue

On Wednesday, at approximately 9:20 p.m., there was a shooting in front of the RayMart at 925 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. A male victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room before being transported to ECMC.
Niagara County wins 2 awards for Tonawanda Creek Road project

The Niagara County Department of Public Works announced the Western New York Branch of the American Public Works Association (APWA) is honoring the Tonawanda Creek Road rehabilitation project as its 2020 Transportation Project of the Year. ASI awards $25,000 to WNY arts & cultural groups selected for 'Give for Greatness' program

Arts Services Inc. (ASI) awarded 25 "Give for Greatness" grants in the amount of $1,000 each to 25 arts and cultural nonprofit organizations based in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. The 25 organizations were selected from 57 total applications for their work and accomplishments in 2020 by a panel of local leaders from the industry.

Bishop Michael J. Fisher announced appointment of Dr. Tim Uhl as the new superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Buffalo, a position he will take up on April 19. Since 2014, Uhl has been the superintendent for the Montana Catholic Schools, which includes 23 schools of both the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings and the Diocese of Helena.
